Monday 1st January 2024
So it's now a matter of writing the new year. For 365 evenings I had to keep asking myself what year is it, and now it's changed again, haha.
The energy of this time of the year is usually positive for a few days. People put out good intentions and are a bit more conscious of how live gets lived before the old habits return. I've noticed that ever since 2020 there's a hesitancy in people to make plans. But it's four years since the crazy lockdown so people are beginning to plan more, well at least it looks like they are on my Facebook, haha.
My own life has lots of plans on the horison and right now, I can't do much with everything on summer holiday mode. Which helps me stay in the moment and take it one walk at a time. There was a spectacular sunrise over the dog park to welcome me into the new year. Apart from a couple of security guys, I loved having this part of the planet all to myself. We ventured around the outside dam again and there was many postcard images but no camera so it was just for me and Rusty to admire. The usual variety of birds kept me guessing their names and there was one New Year party goer who hooted at me as he drove by.
I went out to the supermarket to pick up some supplies and saw that the coffee shop was closed. Other than Christmas day, it's a day when many shops are closed. It's eerie seeing an empty mall so I didn't linger too long.
Rusty wanted an early afternoon walk and I'd snooze so decided it would be good to stretch my legs. Unfortunately no other dogs were about and he looked disappointed. He was a bit restless early evening so I thought he might be missing his car trips again.
We trundled off to the dog park and he was in his element seeing a few of his furry friends. After a good few sprints around, we drove past the one house with Christmas decorations that I'd missed on our previous drive by last week. Satisfied, we headed back to the house, where I continued my TV consumption.
I'm here for the rest of the week and then I head back westwards to my little sister's place. The year has begun!
