A day of heritage

Today was a public holiday in my home country. I was down on the beachfront early but the masses of people had beat me to it. I was amazed. 6.30am and thousands of people were out and about. The usual exercise types showed up but the heritage day revelers were dressed up in chiffon, lace, satin, tribal beads, fancy hairdos, swimming costumes, Sunday best, and dragging suitcases across last night's sand covered paving. It was a visual onslaught that my sleep encrusted eyes struggled to assimilate. But it was fascinating too.
Breakfast was lovely with some warm sunshine breaking through the chilly breeze and we managed to sit outside.
We traveled out of town to lunch further south on the coast and I was amazed by the different suburbs that I haven't seen in years. Being a passenger gave me the option to take it all in, and it is amazing how different our country is in so many aspects. Plus the added wounds of burnt out shopping centers from the violent looting that is only a 6 week thought away. So much to see, and process but I still believe in the energy of a place, and I am still amazed at all of it. But for now, it's time to sleep...
