It's birthday eve! And for my birthday I gave myself the gift of a trip to Oban. It's a small harbour town that serves the western Inner Hebrides, which are a series of Islands that I have yet to explore. It won't be this trip, because this trip is all about meeting Catalina. (Just when you think you know my 'crazy'!)
This plane is described as amphibious, meaning that it can land and take off on water and was built in the 1930s and 40s. I'm super excited about meeting her, because I've been following the Facebook page and have been loving it all, even though I don't remember the details.
Of course in my adventuring, my room mate from the youth hotel and I became fast friends, which is a perfect description of what happened. We ended up walking along the Esplanade and solved the world's problems. I heard stories of her working in the West Indies volunteering at the Leper hospital in the late 60's, how she was matron of a hospice in England and basically has had a fascinating life. Eventually I just had to ask her age, to which she replied 81! I was flabbergasted. She'd raced along ahead of me, greeted everyone and flirted with the fishermen, and totally impressed me. We're four females in our dorm and were all over 45, I think the youth hostel is for those who feel young.
Yet another fantastic day!
