My little car is a 2004 model. Yup. A real teenager. And I was concerned about driving it long distance. But as you might know, it got me all the way down to the sea and back again. That's about 1200km of long road and a couple of hundred while staying in Durban.
In my last few weeks in Durban, I noticed that on turning the ignition, there was sometimes a lull in starting. But I knew somehow that it would be fine. I had serviced it before I left Johannesburg so I blamed the hills and sea air.
Today I tried to unlock it, and my key wouldn't work. Searched and found my spare key which also didn't open anything. My sisters gate had stopped working over the weekend and yesterday her car remote refused to work too. It all seemed so freaky. My car doesn't have a key lock apart from in the boot, so I climbed through the boot to see if it would start manually.
Nada.
Fortunately I am in Johannesburg and I could call for help.
Nic appeared with battery tester, jumper cables and an assortment of tools. Back brace and all, he established that the battery had indeed, died.
After much manoeuvring and squeezing, from it's awkward hiding place, the battery was removed and hopefully by tomorrow, it will be replaced.
Tonight I am feeling really grateful that it brought me back to Johannesburg incident free and that I have the support locally to get it sorted.
World Tour temporarily on pause!
